Book swapping in London, News

Book Swaps for London has 15,000 books to give away!

At the end of November, Book Swaps for London took delivery of 15,000 free books from a publisher that was unable to afford to store them for any longer. We had loads of help unloading them from a truck, and we eventually got them all into the top floor attic of OPEN Ealing. Once we were done, they looked like this:

Well, yesterday, the Book Swaps for London team spent a day in the attic getting the books into order so that we could easily distribute them to new Book Swaps in tube and train stations, and to other groups who might want them. By the time we were done, they looked like this (click the images to enlarge):

We set aside 20 boxes worth for the Raynes Park swap, and the London College of Music has a couple of boxes coming there way as well.

We now have a really good sense of what books we have, and can easily get to them. For instance, we have over 2000 theatre books that would be great for arts and acting schools. They are:

    • (all by Phillip Freund) Laughter and Grandeur: Theatre in the Age of Baroque;
    • Dramatis Personae;
    • Oriental Theatre;
    • The Birth of Theatre; and
    • Acting: A Drama Studio Source Book, by  John Miles-Brown

Check out the rest of the books that we have – if you want any (no number is too big), then please let us know!

Please note that at the moment we are unable to send you books by post or deliver them; you will have to collect them from OPEN Ealing.
